CLEANING MERCURY GLASS!
To clean undecorated, plain areas, spray a
good glass cleaner on a paper towel and
gently wipe the surface.
NEVER submerge a piece of mercury glass in a
water bath!
Further cleaning tips are contained in my book
PICTORIAL GUIDE TO SILVERED MERCURY
GLASS!
SOME "BEFORE AND AFTER" ITEMS BELOW!
ANTIQUE
MERCURY
GLASS
BEFORE CLEANING
AFTER CLEANING
Rare size 12" tall bohemian silvered
mercury GLASS VASE, MADE CIRCA
1860-70, AND DECORATED WITH
GRANULATE ETCHING IN AN
INTRICATE PATTERN WITH BIRDS,
FOLIAGE, VINES AND TENDRILS.
PAIR OF ANTIQUE SILVERED
MERCURY GLASS VASES
BEFORE
CLEANING.

The etched areas were dark
brown and black with years
of accumulated soil and soot.
Both the interior and exterior
surfaces were smudged and
filthy, and the glass looked
cloudy.
SAME PAIR OF ANTIQUE SILVERED
MERCURY GLASS VASES
AFTER
CLEANING!

The granulate etched areas
are now white and the gold
washed interior seen in the
neck of the vase is rich and
bright!
WHAT AN AMAZING  DIFFERENCE!
BEFORE CLEANING:
THIS 9" BOHEMIAN VASE IS
DECORATED WITH THE GRANULATE
ETCHING TECHNIQUE, WHICH
INVOLVED THE APPLICATION OF
PUVERIZED OR CRUSHED CRYSTAL.
THIS TYPE OF DECORATION WAS
PRONE TO SURFACE SOILING AND
WAS DARK BROWN WHEN ACQUIRED.
AFTER CLEANING:
THE WHITE CRYSTAL ETCHING WAS
RESTORED WITH CAREFUL CLEANING.
BY USING ORDINARY LIQUID AUTOMATIC
DISHWASHER CREAM SOAP AND
WATER,
it is possible to restore the
original white color.
